The Kitten and the Duckling: A Short Friendship Story
Milo is a tiny, fluffy kitten sitting on a wooden dock by the river. He can see the fish right below him and his tummy is rumbling, but he can't catch a single one. Then a duckling named Pip waddles over and asks why he looks so sad.
When Milo explains, Pip doesn't think twice. "I'll help you! That's what friends do." He hops into the river, swims down among the fish and comes back up with one in his beak. Milo could have kept it for himself. Instead he says, "Let's share it." The two of them sit side by side as the sun sets, with fireflies blinking around them.
Milo started the story lonely and hungry. He ends it with a full tummy and a new friend. This one is from our TaleThistle story collection, and it's a calm pick for bedtime.
What kids can learn
Helping someone doesn't need a reason beyond "they needed help." And when someone is kind to you, sharing is a good way to pass it on.
Talk about it: How did Pip help Milo? Why do you think Milo wanted to share the fish?
