Iron Duck Runs Again With Help From Her Puppy Friend

💡 The lesson: Encouragement helps friends try again

Quill is a white duck who lost her legs in an accident. With help from the villagers, she gets new metal legs. At first she's afraid to use them and isn't sure she'll ever run again.

Her best friend Rusty, an orange puppy, doesn't let her give up. Every day he barks, nudges her forward with his nose and runs beside her. In this video, out in a sunny meadow full of wildflowers, Quill finally runs, really runs, with Rusty racing right next to her.

What kids can learn

Trying something new after a hard time takes courage, and a good friend can make a big difference. Rusty doesn't do the running for Quill. He just keeps believing in her.

The story is also a gentle way to talk about people who use prosthetic legs, wheelchairs or other aids to get around. Kids are often curious, and it helps to keep it simple: some bodies work differently, and those tools help people do the things they love.

Talk about it: How did Rusty help Quill feel brave? How can you cheer on a friend who's learning something hard?
